Every Set for Life prize tier is a fixed cash amount, including the top prize (£10,000 a month for 30 years) and the second tier (£10,000 a month for one year) — this game has no pari-mutuel jackpot. Only a rare capping rule changes that: if a tier's prize fund can't cover every winner in full, it's split evenly across them instead, and only the TOP tier's winners can then choose a lump sum instead of the annuity — the second tier has no lump-sum option even when capped. Outside that rare case, there is no such election.

Smaller prizes can usually be paid at any authorised retailer; larger amounts require contacting the operator directly with the original ticket and ID. The Gambling Commission's Section 6 licence conditions set one claim window across every National Lottery game: 180 days, beginning the day after the draw.

Set for Life prizes sit outside two separate UK tax charges, not one blanket rule. Capital Gains Tax excludes them by statute: "Winnings from betting, including pool betting, or lotteries or games with prizes are not chargeable gains" (Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992, s.51(1)). Lottery winnings also fall outside the scope of Income Tax (HMRC Business Income Manual, BIM100101). The top prize (£10,000 a month for 30 years) has one published exception: the operator's own Section 6 licence terms state its monthly payments "consist of a capital and an interest component. The capital component is tax free whereas the interest component is subject to applicable tax," though "the monthly payments will not be lower than £10,000 after tax" under the tax rules the licence cites. That note applies to the top prize only — no equivalent tax-component breakdown is published for the second tier (£10,000 a month for one year).
