A Lotto 6/49 winner story from North York starts with a phone call. Toronto.com's headline about the win says it plainly: the winner called his mom at 4 a.m. after finding out he won.
A Second Prize From the August 12 Draw
The official record comes from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), which sells Lotto 6/49 in Ontario. The game itself is a national one, run by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC). OLG's published list of prize winners paid on September 2, 2026 includes Vinayagamurugan Dhandapani of North York, Ontario, with a Lotto 6/49 prize of C$98,453.90 from the August 12, 2026 draw.
It was a second prize in the Classic Draw. Every Lotto 6/49 play enters two draws: the Classic Draw, which carries the fixed top prize, and the Gold Ball Draw, so this win has nothing to do with the Gold Ball jackpot.
The winning numbers and every prize tier from that night are on the full results for the August 12, 2026 Lotto 6/49 draw.
What makes this winner story stay with you isn't really the figure. It's the call he made once he knew.
A Lotto 6/49 second prize is a genuine long shot, and every draw is random and independent. One night's result says nothing about the next, and no pattern or method changes the odds. If you'd like to see how the game works and how recent draws have gone, the Lotto 6/49 results hub has both.
The call at 4 a.m. has already been made, and it's probably the part of this story that will last longest.
Play for fun, within a budget you set in advance. If gambling has stopped being fun, support is available through the problem gambling helpline for your province or territory — the Responsible Gambling Council lists every one on its Help for Canadians page.
Always confirm winning numbers, prize amounts, and deadlines with the official operator before acting on a ticket — the operator's published results are the only ones that count.
