A$20K/month for 20 years is the fixed Division 1 annuity, not a rolling cash jackpot — the same structure is on offer every draw whether or not it's won. It is guaranteed in full to each of up to 4 Division 1 winners a draw; with 5 or more winners in the same draw, a total of A$80,000 a month is divided equally between them instead. Division 2 (A$5,000 a month for 1 year) works the same way — guaranteed to up to 4 winners, or a A$20,000-a-month total split between 5 or more.

Claim through the official The Lott jurisdictions / Lotterywest (WA), not through this site — smaller prizes can usually be paid at any authorised retailer, while larger amounts require contacting the operator directly with the original ticket and ID. Australia has no single national claim window: it depends on the jurisdiction the ticket was bought in. Queensland allows 7 years to claim; NSW and the ACT allow 6 years; the Northern Territory allows 3 years; Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia each allow 12 months initially. Check the rules for the jurisdiction the ticket was purchased in before assuming a shorter window applies.

Set for Life prizes are paid free of Australian income tax. Recipients should still consider Centrelink means-testing on the amount itself, and that gifting some of it on as an asset, or income and capital gains the money earns afterwards — bank interest or investment growth, for example — can raise separate income-tax or CGT questions. Australia has no general gift duty on cash gifts between individuals.
